Urgent Alert: Winter Storm Hits Buffalo Ahead of Thanksgiving
UPDATE: A powerful winter storm is sweeping across Buffalo, New York, just days before Thanksgiving, prompting urgent preparations from local officials. Starting Wednesday night, a winter weather advisory is in effect for several counties in Western New York, including Erie County.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has urged residents to take immediate safety precautions as snow accumulations are expected to disrupt travel and daily activities. In a press conference earlier today, Poloncarz emphasized, “Now is the time to prepare.” He was joined by Erie County Sheriff John Garcia and Public Works Commissioner William Geary, who assured the public that Buffalo is ready to tackle the challenges posed by this winter storm.
Snowfall could reach up to 6 inches in some areas by Thursday morning, creating hazardous road conditions and potential power outages. Authorities are advising residents to stay informed about the latest weather updates and to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
Buffalo’s Department of Public Works is mobilizing resources to clear roads and ensure the safety of residents. Poloncarz reiterated the importance of being proactive: “We have the tools and the plan in place, but we need our community to engage in safety measures as well.”
As the storm approaches, residents are encouraged to stock up on essential supplies, check on neighbors, and prepare vehicles for winter driving conditions. The Erie County Emergency Services is on high alert and ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
With Thanksgiving less than a week away, this winter storm poses significant challenges for holiday travel plans. Travelers should anticipate delays and possible cancellations. It is critical for those planning to travel to stay updated through local news channels and weather apps.
Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely, issuing updates as necessary. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and to heed warnings from local officials.
For real-time updates and safety tips, residents can follow the Erie County social media channels or visit the county’s official website. Stay safe, Buffalo!
