UPDATE: Residents in Clovis, California, flocked to local shops on Small Business Saturday to support small businesses, transforming the area into a bustling winter wonderland. Just hours ago, festive carriage rides and vibrant street markets drew crowds eager to score unique holiday deals.

Shoppers filled the streets, with many, like local resident Heather Martinez, discovering one-of-a-kind treasures. “How beautiful is that? You can’t get that anywhere else,” Martinez exclaimed, showcasing her antique find. What began as a casual outing turned into an impromptu treasure hunt, highlighting the charm of local shopping.

Local business owner Tom Frost of Frost Oak Creek Creations confirmed the impact of the holiday shopping surge. “I would say the holiday season accounts for about a third of your business for the year,” he stated. Frost noted that the rush typically begins with Black Friday and continues through Christmas, emphasizing the critical role of community support.

In a broader context, Manchester Mall in nearby central Fresno also reported increased foot traffic, with merchants highlighting the significant difference that local patronage can make. “When you shop small, you might be paying for someone’s meal,” said Lani, owner of Shake & Sip Lemonade Stand. This sentiment resonates with many who recognize the personal touch that local businesses provide compared to larger chains.

As the holiday shopping season kicks off, local businesses stress the importance of community support beyond just one day. “We appreciate all foot traffic year-round,” Frost added, underscoring the need for ongoing patronage.

With the festive season in full swing, shoppers are encouraged to continue supporting their local economies. This Small Business Saturday proved to be a powerful reminder of the impact that shopping small can have on the community.
