Dodgers Dominate Brewers 5-1, Take 2-0 Series Lead in NLCS
UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers have just secured a commanding 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, taking a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. In a stunning performance, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered the first complete game in postseason play in eight years, showcasing his dominance on the mound.
The action unfolded on October 17, 2023, as the Dodgers left Milwaukee with an impressive advantage. Yamamoto allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters, recovering from a tough outing in his previous start against the Brewers. Despite giving up a homer to Jackson Chourio on his first pitch, he quickly regained control, silencing the Brewers’ offense for the remainder of the game.
In a thrilling night for Dodgers fans, both Teoscar Hernández and Max Muncy contributed with solo home runs. Muncy’s towering 412-foot blast marked his 14th postseason home run, breaking the Dodgers’ franchise record he previously shared with legends Corey Seager and Justin Turner.
The significance of this victory cannot be overstated. This is the first time since 1970 that both road teams in the League Championship Series have started 2-0. With the Seattle Mariners also leading in the American League Championship Series, the pressure is mounting for the Brewers as they head into a critical Game 3 in Los Angeles on October 19, 2023.
The Brewers attempted to rally support, with former player Eric Thames energizing the crowd just before the game. Chourio’s home run early on seemed to set a daunting tone, but Yamamoto’s resilience turned the tide. The Dodgers’ pitching has been nothing short of historic; they are the first team since the 2010 World Series to have back-to-back postseason starts of at least eight innings in the same series.
Los Angeles wasted no time responding after Chourio’s homer. Hernández hit a crucial three-run shot, followed by a double from Andy Pages, who had struggled earlier in the postseason. Muncy’s homer extended the lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning, sealing the Brewers’ fate.
With this win, the Dodgers are now eyeing a potential sweep as they prepare for Game 3. Fans and analysts alike are buzzing about the Dodgers’ momentum, with 24 of the last 27 teams to take the first two games on the road in a best-of-seven series advancing to win.
As the Dodgers gear up for their return to Los Angeles, all eyes will be on Game 3. The urgency is palpable as the Brewers face an uphill battle to stay alive in the postseason. Will they bounce back, or will the Dodgers continue their dominance? Stay tuned for updates and breakdowns of this thrilling playoff series.
