Google Enhances Security Features for Accounts and Messages
Google has introduced new security features aimed at enhancing user protection for both Google Accounts and Google Messages. These updates are designed to bolster security measures and assist users who may encounter difficulties accessing their accounts.
New Trusted Contacts Feature
One of the standout additions is the **Trusted Contacts** feature. This allows users to designate friends or family members who can assist them if they become locked out of their Google account. The process is straightforward and maintains the privacy of your account. If access is lost, users can send a verification code to their Trusted Contacts, who will then receive an email or notification prompting them to confirm the request. This feature provides an added layer of security without granting those contacts direct access to the account. Users can begin setting up Trusted Contacts through their Google Account settings.
Security Enhancements in Google Messages
In addition to the new Trusted Contacts feature, Google Messages has rolled out two significant updates: **safer links** and **Key Verifier**. The safer links feature alerts users when clicking on links that may be spam, helping to protect against potentially harmful websites. This feature is now available globally to all Google Messages users. Only if a message is marked as “not spam” will the warning be suppressed, ensuring that users are aware of possible threats.
The second enhancement, Key Verifier, allows users to scan a QR code associated with their trusted contacts. This step adds an extra layer of assurance that end-to-end encrypted messages are being exchanged with the intended recipient. Key Verifier is currently available for users operating on **Android 10** and above, with Google planning to introduce further protections based on this feature in the future.
These updates reflect Google’s commitment to improving user security and providing tools that facilitate safer communication. Users are encouraged to explore these new features to enhance their online safety.
