Kings’ Keegan Murray Signs Urgent $140M Extension Through 2031
BREAKING: Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has just secured a groundbreaking five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension, according to his representatives, Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of Priority Sports. This deal ensures that Murray will remain a vital part of Sacramento’s lineup through the 2030-31 season, underscoring his importance to the franchise.
Murray, the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, made an immediate impact in his rookie season, helping the Kings snap their playoff drought and earning a spot on the All-Rookie team. Despite a slight plateau in offensive production, he has grown into a key two-way player, serving as the team’s primary perimeter defender—a crucial role for a Kings squad known for its offensive prowess.
In an impressive statistical feat, Murray is one of just three players to achieve over 500 3-pointers, 150 blocks, and 150 steals in the past three seasons, joining elite company with Anthony Edwards of Minnesota and Derrick White of Boston. Last season, he recorded 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in an average of 34.3 minutes across 76 games.
However, the excitement of the extension is tempered by injury news. Murray is set to miss several weeks at the beginning of this season due to a torn UCL in his left thumb. This injury marks a significant setback for the 25-year-old, who has been remarkably healthy, playing in 233 out of 246 total games throughout his career.
Murray’s consistency is notable; he is one of only seven players in NBA history to make at least 150 3-pointers in each of his first three seasons. His ability to guard top-tier talent—he faced 2025 All-Stars in 1,005 halfcourt matchups last season, ranking fifth in the NBA—highlights his value to the Kings as they aim for a deeper playoff run.
As the Kings prepare for the upcoming season, Murray’s extension serves as a signal of confidence in his abilities and potential. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he rebounds from injury and contributes to the team’s aspirations.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow this developing story and its implications for the Sacramento Kings and their ambitious goals for the season ahead.
