Blue Jays’ George Springer Optimistic for Game 6 Return
UPDATE: Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider is expressing optimism that George Springer will return to action for Game 6 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners tonight in Toronto. After a knee injury from a 95.6 mph pitch during Friday’s game, Springer is feeling “a lot better,” according to Schneider.
Springer, who left the game after being hit on the right kneecap, is crucial for the Blue Jays as they face elimination. The Mariners currently lead the best-of-seven series 3-2, making this game a must-win for Toronto.
During Saturday’s briefing, Schneider confirmed Springer’s recovery. “He got treatment today and is expected to test his knee in a team workout,” he noted. “We just want to ensure it’s not bothering him swinging or running. But he’s a tough dude, so I’m hopeful and optimistic that he’ll be good to go.” The urgency is palpable as the playoff clock ticks down.
Springer, a four-time All-Star, is hitting .256 this postseason with three home runs and five doubles, adding to his remarkable tally of 22 career playoff homers, tied for fourth most alongside Bernie Williams.
In a related update, injured shortstop Bo Bichette is still yet to run the bases since his injury in a collision with Yankees catcher Austin Wells on September 6. Schneider reassured fans, stating, “He’s definitely making progress. You’ve probably seen him in the outfield, but not on the bases yet. He may run today.” Bichette’s absence has been felt, as he finished second in the majors with a .311 batting average.
Tonight’s game is set to be a thrilling showdown as the Blue Jays aim to keep their championship hopes alive. Fans and players alike are on edge, awaiting updates on Springer’s status as the first pitch approaches. Stay tuned for live updates as this story develops.
