Remembering Carol Stent: A Life Filled with Love and Adventure
Carol A. Stent peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada, beside her devoted husband, David Nakahara. Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of John and Jenny Slajinsky Prespolis. Carol’s journey through life was marked by her adventurous spirit, deep connections, and a profound love for family.
Carol graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation (SMA) in Cambridge. Her time there was enriched by the friendships she formed with her classmates and the teachings of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. As the eldest among six siblings, Carol served as a beacon of support and inspiration throughout her family.
A call for adventure led Carol to San Francisco, California, where she and four classmates launched their careers and found love. In Los Angeles, she met Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern from England. Their connection blossomed, culminating in marriage at the Wayfarers Chapel. After their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found love again with David Nakahara, an attorney practicing in Torrance. They married in a ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989.
In 1998, Carol and David relocated to Las Vegas, where they nurtured a home filled with warmth and affection for their beloved pets, affectionately referred to as their “fur babies.” Carol’s passion for animals and her vibrant personality touched the lives of many.
Despite facing health challenges, including a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, Carol remained a pillar of strength. She dedicated herself to caring for David’s elderly parents during their final years, offering unwavering support and love. Her resilience and humor illuminated the lives of those around her.
Carol is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her legacy is one of love, adventure, and the relentless pursuit of joy in everyday life.
In honoring her memory, let us remember Carol for her spirit and the profound impact she had on her family and friends. As her life exemplified, we are reminded that every moment is a gift, deserving of appreciation and love.
