UConn’s Joe Fagnano Shines in 38-25 Win Over Boston College
UPDATE: UConn football just achieved a significant milestone, defeating Boston College 38-25 in Chestnut Hill. Quarterback Joe Fagnano delivered an extraordinary performance, throwing for 362 yards and four touchdowns, further solidifying his status as a key player in the team’s success.
This victory marks UConn’s first power conference road win since 2012, and it couldn’t come at a better time as the Huskies improve to 5-2 for the season. Fagnano’s calm demeanor and impressive stats—completing 23 of 31 passes—are drawing attention from fans and coaches alike.
Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien praised Fagnano’s performance, stating, “He was very calm, he knows where to go with the ball; give him a lot of credit.” Fagnano’s ability to remain unflappable under pressure has been pivotal in UConn’s recent successes.
In a game where Fagnano connected with Juice Vereen for 82 yards and two touchdowns—including a standout 50-yard touchdown—his leadership on the field is undeniable. Over the last two games, he has thrown for 717 yards and eight touchdowns, maintaining a flawless record with zero interceptions.
“Joe’s playing at a high level right now,” said UConn head coach Jim Mora. “It’s because of the work he does, confidence he has, and the repetition he has gotten in college football.” Fagnano’s efficiency rating stands at an impressive 161.3, making him the only quarterback in the nation with 1,918 yards and no interceptions this season.
At 25 years old, Fagnano brings a wealth of experience, which is evident in his mature decision-making on the field. He emphasizes a “next-play mentality,” focusing on moving forward despite setbacks. “Bad things are going to happen,” he noted. “There are going to be calls that put us behind the chains. It’s a next-play mentality. Just being able to go to the next play is the biggest thing.”
UConn’s performance has not gone unnoticed, as they now need just one more win to become bowl eligible for the third time in four years. With four of their remaining five games looking favorable, anticipation builds for their next big matchup against Duke on November 8, 2023, at Rentschler Field.
As excitement grows around the UConn football program, Fagnano’s remarkable ability to deliver under pressure continues to inspire confidence in both teammates and fans. The potential for a high-profile bowl game is becoming a reality, and the Huskies are poised to make a significant impact this season.
With the spotlight on Fagnano, who has consistently avoided negative plays, UConn football is seeing a resurgence that fans have long awaited. “It’s cool to look at these stats,” Fagnano said of his performance, “but at the end of the day, all I care about is the win.” Expect more thrilling moments as the season progresses and the Huskies aim for a bowl game berth.
