Brandy Explains Abrupt Exit from Chicago Show During Tour
R&B artist Brandy has addressed her sudden departure from the stage during a performance in Chicago on March 16, 2024. The incident occurred at the United Center while Brandy was performing as part of “The Boy is Mine Tour,” which she shares with fellow singer Monica. Mid-performance, Brandy abruptly walked off the stage, prompting Monica to finish the show solo.
According to reports from TMZ, Brandy left the stage after stopping midsong, stating, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my …,” before heading backstage. She did not return, leading Monica to conclude the concert with their classic hit, “The Boy is Mine,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart upon its release in 1998.
Following the performance, Brandy took to social media to explain her actions. In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook, she expressed gratitude for the support from her fans and offered an apology for the abrupt end to the concert.
Brandy’s Health Concerns
In her message, Brandy revealed that she experienced dehydration and felt faint during the show. She emphasized that her health was the priority, stating, “After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint.” She acknowledged her attempt to return to the stage despite not feeling well, but noted that the technical aspects of the show made it difficult to perform effectively.
Brandy expressed appreciation for Monica’s professionalism during the incident, saying, “I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace.” She also thanked her crew for their support and care throughout the situation. After leaving the arena, she sought medical attention and is taking precautions to ensure her well-being moving forward.
Looking Ahead
Brandy concluded her message with optimism, looking forward to returning to the stage in Indianapolis for the next show of “The Boy is Mine Tour.” She stated, “I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica.”
“The Boy is Mine,” released as the lead single from both Brandy’s 1998 album Never Say Never and Monica’s self-titled album, has remained a significant part of both artists’ careers. The song not only topped charts but also earned a Grammy in 1999 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
As Brandy and Monica continue their tour, fans remain supportive, eager to see them perform together again. The tour commenced on March 14, 2024, in Cincinnati, and fans hope for a seamless continuation of the historic collaboration between these two R&B legends.
