Community Mourns the Passing of Joyce K. Ellsworth at 78

Joyce K. Ellsworth, aged 78, passed away on October 15, 2025, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Her family and friends remember her for her vibrant spirit and dedication to loved ones.

Born on November 27, 1946, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Joyce was the daughter of Julius and Leona Janke. She grew up in Lake Park, where she completed her high school education. Following graduation, she moved to Fargo to work as a housekeeper at the Donaldson Hotel, a position she held until her health began to decline.

Joyce maintained an active lifestyle for as long as possible, enjoying bike rides around town. She had a passion for music and cooking, often preparing her beloved goulash. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Wanda Erdmann, and son-in-law, Troy Erdmann. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Ashlee, Taylor, and Jadyn, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Sky, Jerzee, and Oaklee. Her siblings, Jeanette Gunderson, Janice Longtine, Julian Janke, and Jill Herbert, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Leona Janke; her great-grandson, Easton; and siblings, Julie Harrison, Jerome Janke, Jean Gable, and Jerry Janke. Additionally, she was preceded by her brother-in-law, Richard Gunderson.

A private family service will be held to honor Joyce’s life. Friends and family may leave their condolences in the online guestbook at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service in Moorhead, Minnesota. As the community reflects on Joyce’s legacy, her warmth and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
