In an interview with Empire, Johnson described the upcoming film as a blend of genres, stating, “If I had to define it genre-wise, I’d say it harkens back to the ’70s paranoid thrillers. It’s got a light sci-fi element to it.” This description suggests a departure from traditional sci-fi tropes, focusing more on psychological and suspenseful narratives.

Johnson has a history of engaging with the sci-fi genre, notably with his acclaimed film Looper, which featured a complex time travel plot. In reference to Poker Face, Johnson noted, “It’s definitely superhuman in that it’s beyond reality in terms of what humans can do,” indicating that his creative range spans various interpretations of sci-fi.

He expressed a deep affection for the series, saying, “That cog will be turning the rest of my life. I love Star Wars, and if someday it makes sense to come back to it, for both of us, it would be the most wonderful thing in the world.” His comments suggest that while he is exploring new narratives, he is not closing the door on future opportunities within the beloved galaxy far, far away.
