Trump Denies B-1 Bomber Deployment to Venezuela Amid Fact Check
UPDATE: President Donald Trump has just denied reports regarding the deployment of B-1 Lancer bombers to Venezuela, but journalists are confirming the opposite in real time. Earlier today, the Wall Street Journal reported that two B-1 jets flew from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas toward the Venezuelan coast, remaining in international airspace.
During a press gaggle on Thursday, Trump refuted the claims directly when questioned by CBS reporter Kathryn Watson, stating, “No, it’s not accurate.” However, CNN journalist Natasha Bertrand swiftly fact-checked the president, noting that the bombers were visible on flight radar and tracked throughout the day, coming within just over 50 miles of the Venezuelan mainland.
The Wall Street Journal cited an unnamed U.S. official and flight data to substantiate the deployment of the bombers. This incident highlights the growing tensions, as Trump suggested possible “land action” in Venezuela could be imminent. While no formal plans for military escalation have been announced, the implications are significant.
Last week, CNN’s Avery Schmitz shared radar images of B-52 bombers flying near Venezuela, just 48 miles from an archipelago populated by thousands of residents. As tensions rise, the situation is evolving rapidly, drawing international attention.
In response to a question about Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro proposing mediation with the Trump administration, the president dismissed the offer, asserting that Maduro “doesn’t want to f—— around with the United States.”
Despite Trump’s strong rhetoric against Maduro, including allegations of drug trafficking, no specific military operations have been formally announced to Congress or the public. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has provided limited details, leaving many questions unanswered.
This developing story is crucial as it touches upon U.S. foreign policy and military readiness in South America. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the White House for further announcements or potential actions in Venezuela.
Stay tuned as we track this urgent situation, highlighting the human impact and geopolitical ramifications of the U.S. stance on Venezuela.
