Warriors Edge Nuggets 137-131 as Curry Shines in Overtime
UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Golden State Warriors clawed back to defeat the Denver Nuggets 137-131 on October 26, 2023, at Chase Center. This electrifying game featured a spectacular 50-point performance by Aaron Gordon, but it was Stephen Curry who stole the spotlight with clutch plays in the final moments.
With just 26 seconds left in regulation, Gordon sank his 10th three-pointer to give Denver a three-point lead, capping off a career night. However, Curry responded just five seconds later, draining a semi-contested 34-footer to tie the game. This incredible shot set the stage for an overtime period where Curry scored crucial points to secure the victory.
“The bigger the moment, the more he rises,” said Draymond Green about Curry’s ability to perform under pressure. Curry finished with 42 points on 14-of-25 shooting, including six three-pointers, marking the second-highest scoring game in his 17 home openers.
Gordon’s night was nothing short of remarkable, shooting 17-of-21 and 10-of-11 from beyond the arc. His eight consecutive three-pointers to start the game brought him close to the NBA record, showcasing a dramatic leap from his previous seasons. “Ridiculous,” Curry remarked. “Whatever he did this summer, it worked.”
Despite Gordon’s historic performance, the Nuggets fell to 0-1 for the season, while the Warriors improved to 2-0. The game turned late in the fourth quarter when Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr implemented a new jumbo lineup, featuring Curry alongside Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green, and the newly acquired Al Horford. This strategic shift helped the Warriors erase a seven-point deficit in the final minutes.
“It was really fun to watch a group that’s never played together close a game against one of the best teams in the league,” Kerr said post-game.
The Warriors now look to build on their momentum as they aim to establish themselves as serious contenders in the Western Conference. The Nuggets, on the other hand, will regroup before facing the Phoenix Suns at home on October 28, 2023.
As fans buzz about tonight’s nail-biter, Curry’s resilience and Gordon’s breakout performance will undoubtedly be the talk of the league. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding NBA season.
