Strathmore High Volleyball Secures Top Seed for Playoffs
The Strathmore High volleyball team has achieved the No. 1 seed in the Central Section Division V playoffs, as announced on Friday. This positioning marks a significant accomplishment for the Spartans, who concluded their regular season with a record of 23-7 and dominated the East Sequoia League, finishing with an undefeated mark of 8-0.
The playoff matches are set to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, with Strathmore’s first-round game against No. 16 Ridgecrest. Should the Spartans secure a victory, they will host the winner of the matchup between No. 8 California City and No. 9 West on Thursday, October 30. The semifinals will take place on Tuesday, November 4, followed by the championship match on Thursday, November 6.
Path to the Championship
As the top seed, Strathmore has the advantage of hosting all playoff matches as long as they continue to win. Their side of the bracket includes other contenders such as No. 4 Morro Bay, No. 5 Cabrillo, No. 12 Coalinga, and No. 13 Highland. The Spartans are focused on maintaining their momentum as they prepare for the postseason.
In related news, Liberty Madera holds the No. 2 seed in Division V. Meanwhile, in Division II, Monache garnered the No. 13 seed and will face No. 4 Frontier in an away game on the same Tuesday. Should Monache pull off an upset, they would advance to play either No. 5 Mission College Prep or No. 12 Redwood in the quarterfinals on Thursday. It is noteworthy that Redwood has previously defeated Monache in both matches this season.
Other Local Teams Competing
In Division III, Porterville High is the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Kingsburg at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Sharman Gym. A win for Porterville would likely set up a quarterfinal match against No. 2 Bullard on Thursday.
Furthermore, Summit Collegiate High School has received the No. 12 seed in Division VI and will play at No. 5 Woodlake in the first round. In two previous encounters this season, Woodlake emerged victorious, winning both matches against Summit. Should Summit win, they would either travel to No. 4 McLane or host No. 13 Legacy Christian in the quarterfinals.
In the girls’ tennis playoffs, Strathmore has also been placed in a favorable position, securing the No. 4 seed in Division IV. They will host No. 13 Matilda Torres at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The quarterfinals are scheduled for October 30, followed by semifinals on November 4 and championship matches on November 12. A win for Strathmore would set up a quarterfinal match against either No. 5 Tehachapi or No. 12 Central.
Monache’s girls’ tennis team, receiving the No. 10 seed in Division IV, will compete against No. 7 Lemoore on Tuesday. Should they win, they would advance to face either No. 2 Avenal or host No. 15 South in the next round.
With the playoffs fast approaching, local teams are gearing up for a competitive series of matches, showcasing the talent and determination of athletes in the region.
