UPDATE: Logan Cooley delivered an electrifying performance, scoring twice within the first 3:29 to lead the Utah Mammoth to a decisive 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul, Minnesota, on October 28, 2023.

The Mammoth’s win marks their sixth consecutive victory, showcasing their dominance on the ice. Just two days after a stunning hat trick against St. Louis, Cooley wasted no time making his mark, finding the net just 56 seconds into the game with a spectacular backhand shot past Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson.

Cooley struck again on a power play at the 3:29 mark, capitalizing on a penalty against Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin to extend Utah’s lead to 2-0. The Mammoth surged further ahead as Nick Schmaltz scored his sixth goal of the season less than two minutes later, putting Utah up 3-0.

However, Minnesota’s veteran Marcus Johansson responded fiercely. He netted two goals, the first coming at 4:21 in the first period, reducing the deficit to 3-1. Johansson’s second goal, a power play strike, brought Minnesota within one at 3-2 just eight seconds before the end of the second period, igniting hopes for a comeback.

As the third period unfolded, JJ Peterka extended Utah’s lead to 4-2 with 6:23 remaining. Schmaltz then scored again, sealing the game with a 5-2 margin. Notably, Schmaltz has now tallied an impressive seven goals in his past five games.

Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka was instrumental in the win, making 32 saves to maintain control over the Wild’s offensive push. An empty-net goal from John Marino with just 5.1 seconds left finalized the score at 6-2.

The Mammoth will aim to extend their winning streak to seven when they face the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Cooley and Schmaltz can continue their scoring surge as the Mammoth push for a strong season.
