Orioles Confirm Craig Albernaz as New Manager Amid Turnaround
UPDATE: The Baltimore Orioles have just confirmed the hiring of Craig Albernaz as their new manager, aiming to revitalize the team after a disappointing 2025 season. Sources report the agreement is finalized, signaling a major shift for the franchise following the mid-May dismissal of former manager Brandon Hyde after a dismal 15-28 start.
Albernaz, known for his exceptional rapport with young players, steps into this pivotal role as the Orioles finished last in the American League East with a 75-87 record. Interim manager Tony Mansolino led the team for the remainder of the season, but the franchise is now looking to Albernaz to harness its promising talent pool.
The Orioles’ roster boasts standout young hitters like Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jordan Westburg, making it one of the most attractive managerial positions in baseball. Albernaz, who served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, previously showcased his coaching prowess when the Guardians won the American League Central in 2025.
At just 42 years old, Albernaz brings a wealth of experience from various coaching roles, including time with the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants. His skill in building strong connections with players was a significant factor in his selection, especially given the young talent within the organization.
The Orioles will be looking to improve their pitching staff, which struggled last season. With the return of Kyle Bradish from Tommy John surgery and breakout performances expected from left-hander Trevor Rogers, there is cautious optimism. However, injuries to pitcher Grayson Rodriguez leave concerns about the depth in both the rotation and bullpen.
Albernaz’s inaugural managerial season will place him in the highly competitive AL East, facing formidable rivals like the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, the rising Boston Red Sox, and the ever-competitive Tampa Bay Rays. The challenge is immense, but with a talented roster, the Orioles are eager to reverse their fortunes.
As the baseball world watches closely, Albernaz’s hiring marks a new chapter for the Orioles, one that could reshape the team’s future. Fans are already buzzing with excitement about the potential turnaround as the franchise prepares for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
