URGENT UPDATE: A heroic rescue effort has saved a dog named Rascal after he was trapped for two days in an old well in Harrison County, Mississippi. The incident unfolded when Rascal fell into a well measuring 18 inches in diameter and 20 feet deep while the family was remodeling their kitchen.

According to Harrison County Fire and Rescue (HCFR), the rescue operation began on October 26, 2023, after the homeowner discovered Rascal was missing. The dog’s plight became known when the homeowner was working on flooring and realized Rascal had slipped under the house and into the well.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, where they encountered a significant challenge. HCFR shared on their Facebook page that they had to get permission to break up the floor above the well opening to facilitate the rescue. The team took precautionary measures by covering the well with plywood to prevent any falling debris from injuring Rascal during the operation.

After securing the area, firefighters lowered a rope with a loop into the well. With a bit of encouragement through treats, Rascal emerged from a small void at the bottom of the well. The rescue took approximately 45 minutes, but the combined efforts of the firefighters ensured that Rascal was brought back to safety in good health.

This heartwarming rescue highlights the bond between pets and their owners, showcasing the community’s dedication to animal welfare. As Rascal reunites with his family, the story serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance during home renovations.
