Dolphins Coordinator Frank Smith Moves to Sideline, Boosts Offense
UPDATE: In a strategic shift, the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator Frank Smith has moved from the booth to the sideline, enhancing communication and effectiveness during the team’s recent 34-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. This change, confirmed on Tuesday, is already showing significant impact.
Smith expressed excitement about the move, stating, “It’s fun, man. It was a lot of fun,” after spending years coaching from above. The decision arose from a week of practice where Smith’s voice was critical in driving the offense’s performance. Tight end Darren Waller, whom Smith coached at the Raiders, even messaged him, saying, “I guess they saw the real you,” highlighting the immediate connection Smith established from the field.
The Dolphins executed several changes in their game strategy, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa wearing a visor to protect his swollen eye. Smith noted the effectiveness of utilizing offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill in tight end packages, calling it a “two-prong” solution to offensive challenges. “It was awesome just to see his connectivity to the guys,” Smith said.
In injury updates, outside linebacker Bradley Chubb reported shoulder and foot injuries but assured fans, “I’ll be good” for the upcoming Thursday night game. Chubb’s status is crucial as the Dolphins prepare to face the Baltimore Ravens in South Florida.
Meanwhile, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has been sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury, hinted at his return, saying, “Can’t wait to touch the grass with my guys.” His comeback adds an exciting layer to the upcoming matchup.
Additionally, the Dolphins placed cornerback Storm Duck on injured reserve following a knee injury, creating an open roster spot. Rookie cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. could be activated from IR as he recovers from a hamstring issue, while the team also made moves on the practice squad, bringing back undrafted rookie Ethan Robinson.
In quarterback news, Quinn Ewers briefly held the backup role but has been replaced by veteran Zach Wilson for now. Head coach Mike McDaniel stated, “Until competition proves otherwise, for now, the best thing for our football team is for Zach to come in and be the No. 2.” McDaniel emphasized the importance of competition, noting both quarterbacks have elevated their play during recent practices.
As the Dolphins gear up for their critical Thursday night matchup, fans are eager to see how these strategic changes will influence the team’s performance on the field. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
