Law Enforcement Shops for 417 Kids in Urgent Holiday Initiative
UPDATE: In an urgent initiative ahead of the holiday season, law enforcement in Oklahoma City has begun shopping for 417 children, ensuring they receive gifts this Christmas. On Wednesday, officers teamed up with Sunbeam Family Services to kick off this heartwarming effort.
With less than two months until Christmas, SGT. Tara Hardin from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the significance of this program, stating, “For some of those families, this may be the only toys that they get.” The community is rallying together to make the holiday season brighter for those in need.
The event marks the 25th year of the grandparents raising grandchildren shopping event, where officers and volunteers carefully select toys tailored to children of all ages. “We are shopping for 417 kids today that will culminate in a huge event in December when we give the presents away,” Hardin added. The event promises to be festive, featuring Santa, elves, and even the Grinch.
Beyond this holiday initiative, Sunbeam Family Services offers a range of support for families involved in the program. Brandi Rettman, Careteam Coordinator, highlighted the comprehensive services available, including mental health support, back-to-school supplies, and fun events throughout the year. “We have support groups every week for these grandparents, and it really helps,” she stated.
As local law enforcement fills their carts with toys, they express the joy of contributing to such a meaningful cause. “We don’t want families to have to choose between necessities and fun when you’re a child. Christmas should be fun,” said SGT. Hardin. “We are thrilled and delighted to be able to be a part of that.”
For grandparents raising grandchildren who wish to get involved with Sunbeam Family Services, additional information is available through their official channels.
This community effort not only brightens the holiday for children but also strengthens the bonds within families, making the season truly special for those who need it most. Stay tuned for updates as this heartwarming initiative progresses.
