Tim Miller Challenges Nancy Mace’s Gay Marriage Stance in Urgent Rebuke
UPDATE: Former GOP analyst Tim Miller has sharply criticized Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) for her recent comments on gay marriage, escalating a public discourse that ignites tensions within the Republican Party. On Wednesday, Miller, host of “The Bulwark Podcast,” confronted Mace’s contradictory statements on social media, highlighting her history of support for LGBTQ rights.
In a controversial tweet posted on Tuesday, Mace invoked the phrase, “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” a slogan commonly associated with anti-gay rhetoric. This statement was met with backlash as a Community Note on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out her previous votes favoring the protection of gay marriage.
During an episode of “Bulwark Takes” aired on Wednesday, Miller did not hold back, stating, “This is a deeply sad woman just looking for attention.” He proceeded to showcase a montage of Mace’s past posts which emphasized her support for LGBTQ rights, including a tweet from 2021 where she stated, “I support LGBTQ rights. Nobody should be discriminated against.”
Miller emphasized the inconsistency in Mace’s stance, reminding viewers that her support for issues such as religious liberty, gay rights, and transgender equality coexisted during the Biden administration. He noted, “This is not during the Romney campaign, and this is after Trump 1.0,” highlighting the evolution of her views.
Miller also referenced a tweet where Mace celebrated the South Carolina Pride flag, as he questioned her recent shift in tone regarding marriage. Notably, he pointed out that her perspective began to change following personal hardships, particularly after experiencing two divorces herself. “Nancy’s trajectory has shifted from ‘Equality for everybody’ to ‘Go ahead and get married if you want, gays, it’s miserable,'” Miller remarked.
This unfolding discourse reflects a broader struggle within the Republican Party as figures like Mace navigate the complexities of public opinion on LGBTQ rights. As the conversation intensifies, many are watching closely how Mace will respond to the mounting critiques from within her party and beyond.
Next Steps: As Miller’s comments gain traction, all eyes will be on Mace for her response. Will she clarify her position or continue to face scrutiny from both sides? The political landscape in South Carolina and the national Republican Party may hinge on her next moves. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
