After a recent practice, Lyon explained that his mindset has shifted significantly. “It’s not even like I’m more prepared for the opportunity,” he stated. “It’s just that there’s a level of healthy apathy. In his early starts this season, Lyon has boasted a 2.90 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage, featuring in nine of the Sabres’ first eleven games. His role became more prominent following an injury to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who was initially expected to be the starting goalie. The Sabres signed Lyon to a two-year contract worth $1.5 million per year, primarily to provide veteran backup and competition.
