Colorado Volleyball Triumphs Over Baylor in Top-25 Showdown

UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team delivered a stunning performance, defeating the No. 18 Baylor Bears in a thrilling top-25 matchup on October 20, 2023. The 23rd-ranked Buffaloes clinched victory in four sets, winning 14-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 at the CU Events Center.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Colorado, pushing their record to 20-3 and 10-1 in the Big 12 Conference. It is the first time the team has reached 20 wins since 2022 and the third time in ten seasons under head coach Jesse Mahoney. With this win, Colorado now shares the conference lead after Arizona State suffered a five-set loss to Iowa State.

The match started with a rocky first set for the Buffaloes, who quickly fell behind. However, they rebounded impressively, showcasing their resilience by winning three consecutive sets. Coach Mahoney praised the team’s improvement throughout the match, stating, “After a really slow start to that match, I think that was some of the better volleyball we played, certainly in the last several weeks. Everyone contributed, which is really important for us.”

Highlighting Colorado’s key players, Burilovic led with 18 kills, while Payne and Jordan added 9 and 8 kills, respectively. On the defensive front, Splawska dominated the net with 7 blocks, supported by Dwinell with 6 blocks.

The Buffaloes are on a roll, now riding a six-match winning streak. Their next challenge will be a two-game road trip through Kansas, starting with a match against the University of Kansas on Thursday at 5 p.m. MT, available on ESPN+.
