UPDATE: A suspected arsonist has been arrested following a fire at an apartment complex in Redwood City early Saturday morning. Firefighters responded to the blaze on the 1300 block of Marshall Street at 7:35 a.m., where they quickly ensured the safety of all residents.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez, returned to the scene of the incident later that evening, prompting his arrest by the Redwood City Police Department. Officials confirmed that investigators from both the police and fire departments determined the fire may have been intentionally set, leading to a swift identification of Hernandez-Valadez as the suspect.

All residents were safely evacuated, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. However, the fire caused significant damage, affecting three apartment units and displacing three individuals. The American Red Cross is assisting the victims during this difficult time.

Hernandez-Valadez faces serious charges, including arson to an inhabited dwelling, reckless burning, and a probation violation. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail following his arrest.
