Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Safe After Oklahoma City Home Break-In
UPDATE: Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has confirmed that he and his family are safe after a terrifying break-in at their home last week. The incident occurred on October 26, 2023, while the NBA’s reigning MVP was on the court playing against the Washington Wizards.
In a statement following the Thunder’s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, Gilgeous-Alexander expressed relief, saying, “Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters… I’m happy.” His reassurance comes amidst rising concerns over a recent wave of burglaries targeting professional athletes across the United States.
Local authorities in the small community of Nichols Hills received a report of the burglary at approximately 7:45 PM on Thursday. Police confirmed that the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. While no arrests have been made, officials stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. A request for additional information from Nichols Hills Police Chief Steven Cox went unanswered over the weekend.
The break-in reflects a disturbing trend, as high-profile athletes have increasingly fallen victim to such crimes, often targeted for their luxury possessions. Other notable athletes who have experienced similar burglaries include NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, as well as NBA player Luka Doncic and NHL player Evgeni Malkin.
Law enforcement officials have warned that thieves tend to strike during game days, knowing that players will be away from their homes. Police are investigating this latest incident, but have not disclosed whether anything was stolen during the break-in or if anyone was present at the residence at the time.
This alarming trend raises concerns about security for athletes and their families. As investigations continue, fans and community members are urged to remain vigilant.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story and the ongoing investigation into the break-in at Gilgeous-Alexander’s home.
