The 54-year-old mother of three openly discussed her struggles with weight gain during the COVID-19 lockdowns and the changes she made to achieve her goals.

During a conversation with former co-presenter Piers Morgan, Reid revealed her decision to stop going to the gym, explaining that it often left her feeling hungrier. “I’ve levelled out, I lost a stone-and-a-half and that’s enough, and I don’t go to the gym,” she stated in December 2018, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Consultation and Dietary Changes

Reid’s weight loss journey began with a consultation with her general practitioner regarding skin issues. The doctor advised her that she was at the upper end of a healthy BMI for her height and recommended losing weight. Following this guidance, Susanna focused on improving her diet by eliminating snacking during her busy workdays on Good Morning Britain.

She acknowledged that waking up at 4 a.m. for her television role can lead to an energy deficit, resulting in cravings for high-calorie foods. “What I did was cut out snacking,” she explained to ITV colleague Lorraine Kelly. “It can creep up without you noticing, and you can pile [weight] on really quickly.”

Reid has also made significant changes to her diet, choosing to eat fish while avoiding most other meats. In addition, she eliminated alcohol from her lifestyle in 2019 after realizing its detrimental effects on her skin. “Drinking made my skin condition worse, causing blood vessels on my face to burst,” she shared with The Times.

Commitment to a Healthier Lifestyle

Her commitment to sobriety has been unwavering, even during celebrations such as her 50th birthday. However, Reid humorously noted that this decision led to her being labeled “the world’s biggest bore” by Morgan. Despite this, she expressed relief over her decision to stop drinking, stating that it has positively impacted her skin health.
