Millie Bobby Brown Debuts Striking Burgundy Hair at Premiere
Millie Bobby Brown surprised fans with a dramatic hair transformation at the Los Angeles premiere of Stranger Things season five on September 27, 2023. The young star appeared on the red carpet with a striking burgundy hairstyle, moving away from her previously blonde locks. “I’m wearing custom Rodarte for the funeral of the show,” Brown stated to reporters, embracing the mood of the evening.
Her ensemble, designed by Rodarte and styled by Ryan Young, featured intricate metallic and sheer tulle details. The gown, adorned with black feathers along the bust, flowed into a beaded train, creating an elegant silhouette. Complementing her look, Brown wore silver earrings and rings from Chopard, enhancing the sensuality of her appearance. She walked alongside her husband, Jake Bongiovi, who sported a burned red velvet suit, harmonizing with her bold new hair color.
Celebrity hairstylist Pete Burkill crafted Brown’s hair into a sophisticated updo, highlighting the deep wine tone that has been described as either burgundy or a rich Cabernet. Burkill explained, “The intention was to keep Millie’s hair feeling effortlessly undone—as though she could have swept it up herself.” The soft, face-framing texture of the hairstyle complemented the clean neckline of her gown, creating a polished yet relaxed aesthetic.
To achieve the vibrant color, Burkill used a unique blend of Goldwell Elumen Red and Brown’s own brand, Florence By Mills, Mane Character Vibes Hair Mask. This combination resulted in a temporary glossy finish that provided the ideal balance of richness and shine. Burkill emphasized a focus on a “lived-in, timeless aesthetic” for this press tour, aiming for looks that are elevated without feeling overdone.
Brown’s foray into a darker hair color follows a period of experimentation with various styles and shades. Earlier in the year, she debuted her bleach-blonde hair, transforming from her mid-brown locks in a process executed by colorist Veronica Wysocka of Hershesons. The transition took an impressive twelve hours, during which Brown explored a range of hairstyles, including glamorous waves and playful updos.
As a blonde, Brown embraced a more adventurous fashion sense, donning styles reminiscent of the early 2000s, including form-fitting dresses and bold prints. Recently, she made a more permanent return to a light brunette but seems to be enjoying this new vibrant shade of red. The trend of copper locks is gaining traction in the celebrity world, with other stars like Pamela Anderson and Joey King also embracing red hues this season.
As autumn approaches, the allure of red hair continues to captivate many. Whether one opts for fire engine red, cherry cola, or a subtler ginger, there is a shade for everyone to explore. With her history of changing looks, Millie Bobby Brown may not stay with this bold burgundy hue for long. Fans will be eager to see what comes next for the versatile star, who has consistently kept audiences guessing with her ever-evolving style.
