SNAP Benefits Arrive for Erie County Families Amid Urgent Need
UPDATE: SNAP benefits are now arriving for households in Erie County, New York, following an urgent announcement from local authorities. The county reported that these vital benefits began distribution on November 12 and will continue through November 17.
About 96% of households enrolled in the SNAP program in Erie County will receive 100% of their authorized benefits, crucial for families facing food insecurity. However, officials cautioned that families awaiting their first payments on new cases this month are not included in this round and are urged to seek assistance from local food pantries.
“We are relieved that SNAP benefits are once again being issued to families and individuals who rely on this vital program to put food on the table,” said Karen Rybicki, commissioner of the Erie County Department of Social Services. “The uncertainty caused by the government shutdown created real fear and hardship for households across our community. I’m grateful that these benefits are being restored by New York State, allowing families to focus on meeting their basic needs rather than worrying about the source of their next meal.”
This development comes after Gov. Kathy Hochul recently directed state agencies to ensure the full issuance of federal SNAP benefits for November, addressing the urgent needs of countless families. The restoration of these benefits aims to alleviate significant stress in the community and provide essential support to those in need.
Households are encouraged to monitor their SNAP status closely, as the benefits arriving now are crucial for maintaining food security during these challenging times. As the situation continues to evolve, families are reminded that additional resources, including local food pantries, remain available for those who may not qualify for this payment cycle.
Stay tuned for further updates as Erie County navigates this critical issue, ensuring that all families have access to the nourishment they need.
