Hurricanes Secure Commitment from Defensive Lineman DeAnthony Lafayette
The Miami Hurricanes have made significant strides in their recruiting efforts by securing a commitment from four-star defensive lineman DeAnthony Lafayette on March 4, 2024. Lafayette’s announcement came via social media, marking him as the second blue-chip prospect to join the Hurricanes in just two days. This commitment adds momentum to Miami’s recruitment as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Lafayette, who hails from Orlando, Florida, chose Miami over offers from prestigious programs such as Florida State and Oklahoma. Previously committed to LSU, the standout player is rated as the No. 36 edge rusher and the No. 391 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class. His performance in high school has garnered attention, with notable statistics from the previous season that include 73 tackles and an impressive 17.5 sacks.
This season, Lafayette has continued to shine on the field, recording 58 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks. His contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he was named a first-team selection in the 2024 Orlando Sentinel All-Area list. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 230 pounds, he possesses a remarkable wingspan of 6 feet 8 inches, enhancing his athletic profile.
Beyond his defensive capabilities, Lafayette showcases versatility as an athlete. He has also played running back, scoring two touchdowns this season. His athleticism extends to track and field, where he has clocked an impressive 11.3 seconds in the 100-meter dash and holds the school record in discus.
A source from the University of Miami indicated that the coaching staff admires Lafayette’s character, which further solidifies his position as a valuable addition to the team. He joins fellow four-star defensive end Asharri Charles in Miami’s growing 2026 recruiting class.
As the Hurricanes continue to build their roster, Lafayette’s commitment signals a positive trajectory for the program. His combination of skill, athleticism, and character could play a pivotal role in the team’s future successes. The recruitment efforts are expected to intensify as the Hurricanes aim to enhance their competitive edge in collegiate football.
