Gators Edge FSU 78-76 in Thrilling Comeback Led by Haugh, Fland
UPDATE: The No. 10 Florida Gators secured a nail-biting 78-76 victory over the Florida State Seminoles in a dramatic come-from-behind showdown at the O’Connell Center on Tuesday night. With just 15.8 seconds left on the clock, key players Thomas Haugh and Boogie Fland propelled their team to victory, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
Haugh, who played a pivotal role in last season’s national championship, led the Gators with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Fland, the standout transfer in a revamped backcourt, added 18 points along with four steals, including crucial free throws that pushed Florida ahead for the win.
The Gators (2-1) struggled early against FSU, unable to establish control until Haugh and Fland ignited a rally in the second half. Fland’s two free throws gave Florida a decisive 76-73 lead, just as FSU’s senior shooting guard Robert McCray V was unable to capitalize on a last-second three-pointer attempt, finishing the game with a game-high 29 points.
With the Seminoles (2-1) as 17.5-point underdogs, Florida’s win marks their ninth consecutive victory at home, and they have an impressive 31-2 record since the start of the 2023-24 season. The Gators faced fierce competition from FSU, especially from McCray, who scored 15 points in the final 6:11 of the game, yet it was not enough to secure an upset.
The back-and-forth action kept fans engaged, with Haugh’s driving layup at 9:38 remaining in the game giving Florida their first lead since the first half. This led to an electrifying 11-0 run that brought the Gators’ lead to a comfortable nine points at 69-60.
Florida’s victory not only showcases their resilience but also sets the tone for the rest of the season. The Gators are now looking ahead as they aim to build on this momentum and strengthen their position in the rankings.
With the thrilling finish and standout performances, fans are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for Florida as they continue their campaign. Stay tuned for more updates as the Gators gear up for their next matchup.
