UPDATE: A 27-year-old daycare teacher in central Pennsylvania is facing serious legal repercussions after being charged with breaking an infant’s leg. The shocking incident occurred at Shining Stars Childcare, where authorities were alerted on November 5, 2023, following reports of possible child abuse.

The investigation began when the victim’s mother picked up her daughter on November 3, 2023, and found her to be “inconsolable.” Concerned about a possible fever, the mother took the infant to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where doctors discovered a non-displaced fracture in the child’s left leg—an injury deemed inconsistent with accidental harm.

Authorities from Lancaster County Children and Youth Services promptly reported the situation to the Quarryville Police, leading to an urgent investigation. During questioning, the teacher responsible for the infant’s care, Kathryn Taska of New Providence, reportedly altered her account multiple times. Initially, she claimed the child seemed fine after nap time but later contradicted herself when presented with evidence.

Witnesses within the childcare facility noted that the infant displayed signs of distress, particularly after Taska attempted to secure her in a child safety chair. Police have confirmed that Taska failed to notify either the child’s mother or the facility’s assistant director about the injury, which she later claimed to have done.

Taska now faces two felony charges: endangering the welfare of children and aggravated assault against a victim less than six years old. Her preliminary hearing is set for November 19, 2023, and authorities are urging parents to remain vigilant about their children’s safety in childcare settings.

This developing case raises critical concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of caregivers. As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, highlighting the urgent need for accountability in childcare environments.
