Dillon Danis Banned from UFC After Brawl at Madison Square Garden
URGENT UPDATE: Dillon Danis, the former training partner of MMA star Conor McGregor, has been officially banned from all future UFC events following a chaotic brawl at UFC 322 on October 21, 2023, inside Madison Square Garden. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the ban during the post-fight news conference, stating that Danis will “never” be welcome back.
The incident erupted cageside moments before the highly anticipated welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena. Video footage captured Danis engaging in a physical altercation with several members of Makhachev’s team, notably Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Magomed Zaynukov, leading to a significant disruption just as the main card was set to commence.
White did not announce plans to press charges against Danis but made it clear that the organization would not tolerate such behavior. “You will never see Dillon Danis at a UFC fight ever again,” he declared, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
The brawl has reignited tensions reminiscent of the heated rivalry between McGregor and Nurmagomedov, which peaked during their infamous 2018 title fight when personal jabs turned into a chaotic scene inside and outside the Octagon. Although the animosity has lessened over the years, Danis’s recent provocations on social media directed at Makhachev clearly inflamed the situation.
As the dust settles on UFC 322, fans and commentators are buzzing about the implications of Danis’s ban. This incident not only impacts Danis’s career but also raises questions about UFC’s security protocols and the ongoing rivalries that continue to shape the sport.
What’s next? The UFC will likely be under scrutiny regarding how it handles security and potential altercations at future events. Fans can expect ongoing discussions about the repercussions of such brawls in the fight community. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
