URGENT UPDATE: Mavericks power forward/center Anthony Davis will be sidelined for at least seven to ten more days as he recovers from a left calf strain, the Dallas Mavericks announced Sunday evening. This injury will keep Davis out of his ninth consecutive game today against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The latest timeline for Davis’ return was determined after a re-evaluation over the weekend. Mavs coach Jason Kidd stated, “He wants to be out there to help us. But this gives him seven to ten days to get better or to get stronger. Hopefully, in seven to ten days, he’s back on the floor.”

Davis originally targeted the November 8 road game against the Washington Wizards for his return. However, this plan was overridden by Mavs governor Patrick Dumont, according to sources from ESPN. Dumont emphasized caution, insisting that he would not approve Davis’ return without clear medical metrics indicating no risk of aggravating the calf strain or facing a potentially serious injury.

“Dumont sided with Mavs director of health and performance Johann Bilsborough’s urging to take a cautious approach,” sources reported.

Concerns are significant, particularly the risk of Davis rupturing his Achilles tendon if he returns prematurely, echoing the injury sustained by Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton during the NBA Finals. Davis has played in only 14 games this season, including a couple of play-in outings, since being the centerpiece of the controversial trade involving Luka Doncic. This move ultimately led to the firing of Mavs general manager Nico Harrison earlier this week.

Initially recovering from an abdominal injury at the time of the trade, Davis rushed back to play in the Mavs’ first home game post-trade, showcasing his talent with a dominant first-half performance against the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately, he suffered an adductor strain linked to his previous injury, sidelining him for an additional six weeks.

The Mavericks are eager for Davis’ return, especially as they navigate a challenging season. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely for updates on his condition, as the team looks to regain momentum in the NBA season.

This developing situation is critical for fans and the Mavs organization, as they hope for a swift recovery and a successful return to the court for Davis. Stay tuned for further updates as this story unfolds.
