Volkswagen Unveils New T-Roc R Model Amid Impressive Sales Surge
UPDATE: Volkswagen has just announced the launch of its highly anticipated T-Roc R model, set to hit the market in 2027. This new compact crossover is generating buzz, having already established itself as Europe’s fourth best-selling model in 2023, with an impressive 170,931 units sold through October, according to sales data from Dataforce.
The new T-Roc R is expected to elevate Volkswagen’s performance lineup, featuring enhancements that set it apart from the standard model. Customer deliveries of the T-Roc are already starting this month, but for those eager for more power, the high-performance R version is cloaked in secrecy, with details emerging slowly.
What’s turning heads? This model boasts a striking Akrapovič quad-exhaust setup and 20-inch forged wheels equipped with wider tires for superior grip. Up-close shots reveal aggressive bumpers and robust brakes, hinting at a thrilling driving experience.
Under the hood, the T-Roc R will share its turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with the latest Golf R, producing a robust 328 hp and 295 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. However, in a significant development, this new version will introduce a mild-hybrid setup to enhance efficiency, aligning with upcoming Euro 7 regulations. While power outputs remain consistent with the Golf R, the focus on efficiency represents a shift in Volkswagen’s engineering philosophy.
The decision to adopt a 48-volt system may imply a temporary power boost, but sources indicate that Volkswagen is prioritizing sustainable performance without exceeding the Golf R’s existing output. As for the Golf R itself, it may soon transition to a hybrid model, possibly leaving behind combustion engines altogether by 2035.
In a bittersweet note, the six-speed manual transmission is not returning for the T-Roc R; it will come exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Notably, the T-Roc R will not be available in the U.S. market, following the trend of the Golf R wagon, which remains absent from American shores.
Meanwhile, the R division is winding down production of the Touareg R, with the luxurious SUV set to cease production by 2026. Looking to the future, Volkswagen is already hinting at a fully electric R model, building on the excitement generated by its combustion-free Polo GTI.
As Volkswagen gears up for this new chapter, the automotive world waits with bated breath for the T-Roc R’s official debut and the implications of its hybrid technology. It’s clear that the shift towards electrification is not just a trend but a fundamental change in how Volkswagen plans to engage with performance enthusiasts moving forward.
Stay tuned as more details emerge about the T-Roc R and the future of Volkswagen’s performance lineup!
