Data Breach at St. Anthony Hospital Exposes Personal Information
A significant data breach at St. Anthony Hospital may have compromised the personal information of patients, staff, and others associated with the facility. In February 2023, hospital officials discovered that an “unauthorized actor” had accessed a “small number” of employee accounts, prompting an immediate investigation with the assistance of an outside cybersecurity firm.
Located at 2875 W. 19th St., St. Anthony Hospital has stated that they have not yet received reports of any individuals affected by this incident. However, they have committed to notifying anyone whose personal information may have been compromised. The compromised data could potentially include sensitive details such as names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, prescription information, and medical histories.
In a statement, the hospital emphasized, “To date, we have no evidence of any data misuse stemming from this incident, nor any reports of identity theft or fraud.” They reassured the public of their commitment to protecting personal information, stating, “As a team of caring and dedicated healthcare professionals, we deeply value the trust placed in us to protect personal information. We are unwavering in our commitment to privacy and security, and we acted swiftly upon discovery to safeguard the data in our care.”
In light of the situation, St. Anthony Hospital has advised patients to consider placing fraud alerts or security freezes on their credit files. They also urged individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing financial account statements and credit reports for any signs of fraudulent or irregular activity.
For those with inquiries regarding the breach, the hospital has provided a contact number: 877-580-4384, which is available from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. As the investigation continues, further updates are expected to clarify the extent of the breach and any potential impacts on those involved.
