Lakers Fire Buss Brothers from Scouting Roles in Urgent Shake-Up
URGENT UPDATE: The Los Angeles Lakers have officially fired executives Joey and Jesse Buss from their scouting positions, effective immediately. This announcement was confirmed by the brothers to ESPN’s Shams Charania earlier today, signaling a significant shift in the team’s basketball operations.
The Buss brothers have played pivotal roles in the Lakers’ scouting efforts over the last decade, identifying key players such as Austin Reaves, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., and Max Christie. Their departure marks a profound change within the organization, which comes on the heels of a major restructuring effort.
In a heartfelt statement, the Buss brothers expressed their gratitude, stating, “We are extremely honored to have been part of this organization for the last 20 seasons. Thank you to Laker Nation for embracing our family every step of the way. We wish things could be different with the way our time ended with the team.” They also reflected on their father, Jerry Buss, who purchased the Lakers in 1979 for $67.5 million.
Despite their dismissal, the brothers will retain their minority ownership stakes in the franchise. Earlier this year, the Buss family sold the majority ownership of the Lakers to Mark Walter for a staggering valuation of $10 billion, a deal that was approved by the NBA Board of Governors last month.
This restructuring is poised to have immediate ramifications as the Lakers prepare for the upcoming season. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching the team’s next moves and how this shake-up will impact player recruitment and overall strategy moving forward.
Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The Lakers’ future hangs in the balance as they navigate these critical changes.
