BREAKING: South Korean infielder Sung-mun Song has officially entered the Major League Baseball (MLB) posting system, making him available for teams to sign starting Saturday, December 21. This announcement follows an impressive season where Song recorded a career-high 26 home runs and 90 RBIs while playing for the Kiwoom Heroes.

The 29-year-old left-handed hitter, known for his power and consistency, posted a remarkable .315 batting average this year. His overall career stats are equally impressive, with a lifetime average of .284, 80 homers, and 454 RBIs amassed over nine seasons with Nexen (2015, 2017-2018) and Kiwoom (2019, 2021-2025).

Song’s entry into the MLB posting system is significant as it opens the door for teams in need of a strong third baseman. The posting period for players from South Korea lasts 30 days, contrasting with the 45-day period for Japanese players.

Under the MLB’s posting agreement with the KBO League, the posting fee is structured to benefit both the player and the team. It is set at 20% of the first $25 million of a major league contract, with a reduced percentage for higher amounts. For the next $25 million, the fee drops to 17.5%, and any amount over $50 million incurs a fee of 15%. Additionally, a supplemental fee of 15% applies to any earned bonuses, salary escalators, and exercised options.

This development has the potential to reshape the MLB landscape as teams assess their rosters ahead of the upcoming season. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating which franchises will seize the opportunity to sign this talented infielder.

As the posting window opens, all eyes will be on Song and his future in the major leagues. Will he be the next star to make the transition from the KBO to the MLB? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the excitement surrounding Sung-mun Song is palpable, and teams will be scrambling to secure his talents.
