Oklahoma City Thunder Crush Jazz 144-112 with Historic Comeback
UPDATE: The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a stunning performance, defeating the Utah Jazz 144-112 in a thrilling NBA Cup matchup on November 10, 2023. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 31 points, the Thunder staged a remarkable 33-4 run to secure their eighth consecutive victory and improve to an impressive 16-1 for the season.
Trailing by as much as 18 points in the first half, Oklahoma City’s comeback marks the largest victory margin in the play-by-play era for any team trailing by 15 points or more. This significant win not only underscores the Thunder’s resilience but also highlights their ability to rally under pressure.
The Thunder’s offensive onslaught was fueled by their remarkable shooting, with 61.4% from the field and a season-best 62.2% from beyond the arc, making 23 of 37 three-point attempts. After struggling earlier in the season, Gilgeous-Alexander has regained his touch, hitting all three of his three-point attempts against the Jazz and showcasing his scoring prowess.
As the game unfolded, Oklahoma City showcased its dominance, particularly in the third quarter, where they outscored Utah 43-20. The Thunder’s intense defensive pressure forced the Jazz into committing 28 turnovers, leading to 44 points off those mistakes—a critical factor in their victory.
The Jazz had initially taken control, scoring an impressive 44 points in the first quarter, the highest against the Thunder this season, but faltered as Oklahoma City tightened its defense. Utah’s Keyonte George led with 20 points, while Lauri Markkanen added 19 points. However, the Jazz now sit at 5-10 overall and 0-3 in tournament play, struggling to find their footing.
The Thunder are now the only team in the league without a loss when trailing by double digits, improving to 5-0 in such situations. This latest victory cements their position as a formidable contender in the league, with Gilgeous-Alexander achieving over 30 points in 14 of his first 17 games—the most by any player since Michael Jordan in the 1986-87 season.
As the NBA season progresses, all eyes will be on the Thunder, who are proving to be a powerhouse in the league. Fans and analysts alike will be eager to see if they can maintain this momentum and continue their winning streak as they head deeper into the season.
