Bruce Branch III Reclassifies to 2026, Targets College Basketball
UPDATE: Bruce Branch III, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, has just announced his decision to reclassify into the 2026 class. This bold move, confirmed Saturday, means Branch will graduate from Prolific Prep in Florida this spring, allowing him to compete in college basketball starting next fall.
“I believe in my ability. I am confident that I can do this,” Branch told ESPN. His determination is palpable, recalling his experiences playing against older competitors since first grade. “I got pushed down and I got back up,” he emphasized, showcasing his resilience.
This decision is significant for college basketball programs vying for top talent. Branch has not yet taken official visits but has drawn attention from powerhouse schools such as Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, USC, BYU, Arizona, Houston, and Miami. A decision on his recruitment is expected by spring, as he focuses on leading his team to victory at the Chipotle Nationals.
Turning 17 last month, Branch’s reclassification positions him as a strong contender for the 2027 NBA Draft. The current draft class is less competitive than 2026, potentially placing him in the running for the No. 1 pick. Additionally, he has a solid case to take the top spot in the SC Next 100, a position long held by Tyran Stokes.
“I want to expand my opportunities,” Branch stated. “I know there are challenges with this decision. The mental side is as hard as the physical side.” His ability to handle pressure will be critical as he transitions to this new path.
Branch’s performance on the Adidas 3SSB circuit last spring and summer was impressive, averaging 15.9 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 39% from beyond the arc. Standing at 6-foot-7 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, his athleticism and shooting skills position him as one of the best prospects in his class.
“His work ethic will prepare him for this reclassification,” said Ryan Bernardi, head coach at Prolific Prep. “He is emotionally stable; he does not get too high or too low.” This stability and focus will be essential as Branch navigates the next steps in his basketball journey.
As Branch prepares for this exciting transition, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely. His journey is not only about personal achievement but also impacts the landscape of college basketball recruiting. Stay tuned for more updates on his recruitment and performance as the season progresses.
