Culinary Dropout Launches First Location in Orange County
Culinary Dropout, a well-known casual-dining gastropub, is set to open its first location in Orange County on October 29, 2023. Founded by the acclaimed restaurateur Sam Fox, this establishment marks the second Culinary Dropout in California, following the first opening in Del Mar earlier this year. The new venue will be located in the bustling area of Old Towne Orange, bringing a fresh dining experience to the community.
Guests can anticipate a relaxed atmosphere complemented by a menu rich in comfort food. Highlights include soft pretzels served with provolone fondue, barbecue pork belly nachos, and a unique take on the classic sloppy joe. Other selections feature white truffle deviled eggs, pork ribs, banana-bread French toast, and chicken katsu. Culinary Dropout prides itself on its “scratch kitchen,” emphasizing the quality of its offerings.
The beverage menu is equally enticing, featuring a variety of cocktails. Notable options include the Paloma Spritz, which combines blanco tequila and grapefruit, and the Campfire Vibes, made with 100-proof Kentucky whiskey and apple cider. There is also a selection of mocktails, wines, and both tap and canned beers to cater to diverse preferences.
Founded in Arizona in 2012, Culinary Dropout has grown to encompass 16 locations across the United States. The upcoming Orange County location will be a significant addition to the Fox Restaurant Concepts (FRC) portfolio, which also includes popular dining spots such as Blanco and the Henry. FRC was acquired by Cheesecake Factory, Inc. in a multimillion-dollar deal in 2019, yet it continues to operate independently, employing over 5,000 people across more than 60 locations.
The name “Culinary Dropout” reflects Sam Fox’s own journey; he opened his first restaurant, Gilligan’s Bar and Grill, after leaving college in 1992. This narrative of pursuing passion over traditional paths resonates in the establishment’s mission to serve “damn good food for damn good people.”
Culinary Dropout will be open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch available on weekends. Those interested can visit the new location at 191 N. Orange St., Orange, or contact them at 714-439-5566 for more information.
