Amy Poehler recently recounted a surprising encounter she had while flying first class, which turned into a heated exchange with a fellow passenger. During a December 2025 episode of her podcast, “Good Hang,” Poehler discussed the incident with her “Mean Girls” co-star, Ana Gasteyer. The story unfolded as Gasteyer reminisced about a past flight they both shared, which included her daughter, now 23 years old.

Gasteyer prompted Poehler’s memory, saying, “You got into a fight with a guy. Baby Frances was on the plane with us, do you remember that?” Poehler expressed disbelief at the idea of having engaged in a confrontation while a baby was nearby. Gasteyer humorously noted, “I hope so,” referencing the man’s annoyance over Poehler’s use of language in front of a child.

The exchange escalated when a male passenger, also seated in first class, confronted Poehler about her volume. “Excuse me, I’m trying to [relax]. You’re being too loud,” he reportedly said. In response, Poehler admitted, “My Boston came out, let’s just say that.” Although she did not provide specific details about the altercation, it was clear that her response included some choice words, even with Gasteyer and her baby present.

Gasteyer described the confrontation as “the best thing I’ve ever seen” and noted that she did not take offense to Poehler’s colorful language. The man, however, appeared distressed by the interaction and expressed disapproval of Poehler’s behavior in front of a child.

This incident is one of many anecdotes shared by Poehler on her podcast, which recently made headlines by winning the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Podcast. During her acceptance speech for the award in January 2026, Poehler emphasized the mission of “Good Hang,” stating, “It is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter and laughing with people, not at them.” She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue creating content that resonates with listeners.

Poehler also took a moment to acknowledge her boyfriend, Joel Lovell, during the speech. “I love you. Thank you for everything,” she said, highlighting Lovell’s significant background in media, including a previous role as deputy editor of “The New York Times Magazine.” He has since transitioned into the podcasting realm and has been supportive of Poehler’s creative endeavors.

Previously married to actor Will Arnett, with whom she shares two children, Poehler continues to be a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, using her platform to bring humor and connection to audiences worldwide.
