CD Projekt Red Confirms The Witcher 4 Won’t Release in 2026
A significant update regarding the release timeline for The Witcher 4 has emerged from CD Projekt Red, confirming that the highly anticipated game will not be launched in 2026. The announcement was made during a Q&A session at the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, where executives discussed the development of both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2.
During the earnings call, Michał Nowakowski, CEO of CD Projekt Red, addressed inquiries about the development status of The Witcher 4. He noted that the game is currently in its “full-scale production phase.” Despite this positive development, Nowakowski refrained from providing specific details regarding a target release window or the technical processes involved, stating, “The only thing we’re commenting on is that we’re not launching in 2026.”
Despite the disappointment surrounding the release date, Nowakowski provided some optimism for fans. He indicated that future installments in the series would be developed and released within a six-year timeframe, suggesting shorter intervals between The Witcher 4 and its sequels. “In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time,” he explained. “Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, and so on.”
The anticipation surrounding The Witcher 4 remains high, as the game was recently nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. On November 26, 2025, Nowakowski expressed gratitude to fans for their nominations via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He clarified, however, that there would be no new content presented for the game at this year’s awards ceremony.
“I’m very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thanks to everyone who has already voted—your support means a lot to us,” he wrote. “We won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we’re, as always, excited to watch the…”
As it stands, The Witcher 4 is set to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. While there is no official release date yet, the game will explore a new narrative set after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with Ciri taking center stage. Geralt will also return in a supporting role, with Doug Cockle reprising his iconic character from previous titles. The character of Ciri will be voiced by Ciara Berkeley, who takes over from Jo Wyatt, the original voice actor from The Witcher 3.
As anticipation continues to build around the game, fans await further updates from CD Projekt Red regarding its future developments and release timeline.
