This year, Chicago will make its debut on the iconic New Year’s Eve program, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” For the first time, the festivities in the Windy City will be televised live on ABC, bringing a Central Time zone midnight countdown to viewers across the country.

According to an announcement from ABC and Dick Clark Productions, the Chicago countdown will occur one hour after the famous ball drop in Times Square. This significant addition to the show is set to highlight the vibrant celebrations in downtown Chicago.

Excitement Surrounds Chicago’s Inaugural Broadcast

While the hosts and musical guests for the Chicago segment have yet to be revealed, plans include broadcasting the stunning fireworks display on the bridges over the Chicago River. A spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions confirmed that they are collaborating with local ABC station WLS-TV and the office of Mayor Brandon Johnson to ensure a successful event.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the beauty and dynamism of our city and its people for the world to see,” Mayor Johnson stated. “We could not be more excited to welcome in the new year with fireworks, music, and Chicago pride.”

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” hosted by Ryan Seacrest since 2005, will also feature a live countdown from Puerto Rico as part of its Atlantic Time zone coverage. The Chicago segment promises to engage viewers with musical performances and interactions with local revelers through “multiple live cut-ins throughout the night.” The specific location of the stage is still to be announced.

A Legacy of Celebration

This year marks a special milestone for the beloved New Year’s Eve program, which has been entertaining audiences since 1972. Dick Clark served as host or co-host from 1973 until his passing in 2012, leaving a lasting impact on the show’s legacy.

In addition to the Chicago festivities, traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks will also light up the skyline at Navy Pier and along the Chicago River. The full schedule of events in the city is expected to be released by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events soon.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” will air on December 31, 2023, beginning at 19:00 CST on ABC, promising an exciting and unforgettable celebration for viewers and revelers alike.
