Text messages allegedly exchanged between author Colleen Hoover and actor Justin Baldoni have surfaced, highlighting Hoover’s disappointment regarding the ongoing feud between Baldoni and actress Blake Lively. These messages were disclosed in court documents obtained by Us Weekly on November 13, 2024, as part of a declaration filed by Wayfarer Studios.

In the messages, Hoover expressed her feelings of isolation amidst the public dispute. She reportedly stated, “It just feels like I’m on an island here. I know things took an awful turn, and I felt forced to choose when I did not want to.” This sentiment reflects her frustration with the articles stemming from both parties, which she described as “upsetting and ridiculous.”

Baldoni, who is a producer, star, and director of the upcoming film adaptation of Hoover’s bestselling novel, It Ends With Us, shared Hoover’s messages with his public relations team. The film, which was adapted from Hoover’s acclaimed 2016 publication, features Lively in a leading role. Hoover’s involvement as an executive producer adds a layer of complexity to the situation, with her expressing concerns about the public perception of the movie’s team.

Hoover’s messages contained pointed remarks about the impact of the feud on everyone associated with the film. She lamented, “It’s making everyone working on this movie look immature. Everyone is out there trying to save themselves, and now this has turned into a huge mess.” She noted that the turmoil had been felt long before she had direct contact with Lively.

In a notable section of the texts, Hoover indicated that she was not allowed to review the film script until she was with test audiences, which led to confusion during promotional interviews. “I have been disappointed personally by your actions many times,” she wrote, addressing Baldoni. “But you are grown men with a platform. You know how to use it to protect your image. Please don’t continue to use it to harm me or mine. That’s all I’m asking.”

The court documents also revealed an apology from Baldoni, who expressed concern for Hoover’s wellbeing. “We do not control the headlines,” he reportedly wrote, adding, “I just want you to know that I have deeply cared about you for the past five years and that hasn’t changed.”

The ongoing legal conflict took a serious turn in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and claiming his actions caused her “severe emotional distress.” Baldoni’s legal team responded to the allegations by labeling them as “completely false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious,” suggesting that Lively had filed the lawsuit to address her negative public image and to revive a narrative related to the film’s production.

In a further development, Baldoni himself filed a lawsuit against Lively in January 2025, though that case was dismissed by June 2025. Hoover has since removed references to the film’s promotional activities from her social media, indicating her desire to distance herself from the controversy.

Reports suggest that Hoover was deposed in connection to the ongoing legal disputes in October 2025. Lively’s lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial in March 2026, as both parties continue to navigate the complexities of their high-profile conflict.

As the situation evolves, the implications for those involved—particularly Hoover, who has maintained a relatively neutral stance—remain to be seen. The unfolding drama has not only captured public attention but also highlighted the intricate dynamics of relationships within the entertainment industry.
