Comedy Wildlife Awards 2025 Unveils Finalists from 108 Countries
The finalists for the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards have been announced following nearly 10,000 entries from budding photographers worldwide. This year’s competition has attracted participants from 108 countries, showcasing the lighter side of wildlife through a variety of humorous and captivating images. Among the standout finalists are a dancing gorilla, a clumsy red fox, and a display of teamwork among frogs, reflecting the competition’s aim to blend humor with a message of conservation.
As the competition has gained popularity since its inception in 2015, it has also significantly contributed to raising awareness about animal and habitat conservation. Tom Sullam, co-founder of the Comedy Wildlife Awards, expressed enthusiasm about the continued partnership with Nikon, stating, “Their ongoing support has supercharged the competition, reaching more people in more countries than ever before.” This year’s efforts will benefit the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), a UK charity that empowers conservation leaders in the Global South.
Celebrating Talent and Conservation
The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards not only highlight exceptional photography but also emphasize the urgency of conservation efforts. Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe’s senior general marketing manager, remarked, “These images combine wit and wonder to celebrate nature’s character, while emphasising the urgency of conservation.” The competition has raised millions for conservation groups, with funds directed to 220 organizations across 80 countries.
Among the notable entries this year, photographer Paula Rustemeier captured a striking shot of a red fox during her time observing fox cubs in a nature reserve. She shared, “I’m not the biggest fan of camouflaging. The best way I have found to photograph them is just being present.” Her approach allowed her to document their playful interactions and natural behaviors, bringing to light the beauty of their lives away from human threats.
Another finalist, Ralph Robinson, took a captivating image at Volunteer Point in the Falkland Islands, where around 2,000 pairs of king penguins breed annually. He described spending most of the day lying in the sand, observing the penguins, stating, “What a show!”
Highlights from the Finalists
Photographer Andrew Mortimer presented a unique scene of teamwork among frogs in a bore casing on a mine site in rural Western Australia. He noted, “Slightly too short to see over the PVC casing, they make do wherever they can.” This image adds to the competition’s charm and creativity, further illustrating the humorous moments found in nature.
Another finalist, Alison Tuck, captured a gannet on a windy day at Bempton Cliffs, showcasing the struggles of cliffside living. Her image serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by wildlife in their natural habitats.
The public can participate in the competition by voting for the People’s Choice Award from December 10 until March 1, 2026, with the winner announced on March 12, 2026. For those interested in viewing previous years’ galleries, earlier coverage of the awards is available online.
The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards continue to inspire and entertain, reinforcing the importance of wildlife conservation through the lens of humor and creativity.
