Explore Historical Insights at Albemarle County Events This December

The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society is hosting a free lecture titled “Monticello Inn & Cottage: From Sacred Space to Historic Inn” on December 4, 2023, at 6 p.m.. This event will take place in the Lane Auditorium of the Albemarle County Office Building. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments following the lecture, but reservations are requested to ensure adequate seating.

In addition to the lecture, the society will conduct walking tours every Saturday morning through November 29. These tours provide an engaging opportunity to learn about local history. The “Court Square: Where Charlottesville Began” tour starts at 10 a.m. at the Albemarle County Courthouse, located at 501 E. Jefferson St.. The “Historic Downtown Mall” tour will commence at 11 a.m. outside the Ting Pavilion, while the “Black Barbers of Charlottesville” tour is scheduled for noon at the historical society itself.

The activities listed by the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society aim to foster community engagement and promote historical awareness among residents of Charlottesville and surrounding areas, including Albemarle, Buckingham, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison, Nelson, and Orange counties.

Residents interested in sharing events for future listings should submit details to [email protected] by noon on Friday for inclusion in the following week’s activities. The organization emphasizes that political and religious events, as well as those intending to sell goods or promote businesses, are not included in these listings.
