Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Highlights Team Stability for Success
The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, emphasized the importance of maintaining a cohesive development team throughout the trilogy’s production. This stability has been a significant factor in the success of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel, Rebirth. Hamaguchi shared insights into the unique dynamic of his team, which has largely remained intact since the project began in 2015.
Hamaguchi explained the rarity of such continuity in the gaming industry. He noted that it is common for development teams to disband after completing a major project, which often forces developers to rebuild teams for subsequent titles. In his case, the core members have consistently collaborated, contributing to their collective growth and refinement as creators.
“I think one particularly, really good thing about working on these games is the fact that we managed to keep pretty much the same team throughout all of the games,” Hamaguchi told GamesRadar+. He attributes their progress and improved skills directly to their shared experience over the years.
As the team approaches the completion of the trilogy with the upcoming Part 3, they have already spent nearly a decade working on the series. Hamaguchi expressed enthusiasm about leveraging this experience for future projects. “Once we have got out the third game in the series, and hopefully it’s a big success, we’ll definitely move on to something else,” he said.
The bonds formed within the team have strengthened their collaboration, enhancing their ability to innovate and refine their work. Hamaguchi is uncertain about whether their next project will be a new intellectual property or another installment in the Final Fantasy series. However, he is confident that the team will stay together regardless of the direction they choose.
Fans can expect updates on Part 3 in the near future, as Hamaguchi mentioned, “I’m running straight to my hotel room and back to checking some of the levels.” This dedication reflects the commitment of the team to deliver a high-quality experience to players.
The success of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth highlights the impact of a stable team in an industry often characterized by rapid turnover and shifting personnel. As they prepare for the trilogy’s conclusion, the developers are not only focused on delivering a compelling game but also on continuing the collaborative spirit that has defined their journey thus far.
