‘Gilded Age’ Cast Shares Anticipated Storylines for Season 4
Fans of *The Gilded Age* are eagerly awaiting Season 4, and the show’s stars have shared their own wishes for the upcoming storylines. At a recent event in New York, Audra McDonald expressed her excitement about the potential return of the character known as “Railroad Daddy.” She stated, “I want to know what’s going to happen with ‘Railroad Daddy,’ if he’s going to come back to our dear Bertha. I can’t imagine life without the two of them together.”
Taissa Farmiga, another prominent cast member, voiced her anticipation regarding the evolving dynamics between Blake Ritson’s character, Oscar van Rhijn, and Mrs. Winterton, portrayed by Kelley Curran. “Oscar van Rhijn is someone who, I mean, Blake, I just adore as a human and an actor, and him and Mrs. Winterton together, I feel like they get up to so much drama, but like juicy drama,” Farmiga remarked. She added, “I’m excited to see what chaos they would cause for our society in the 1880s.”
Season 3 Recap and Future Prospects
Season 3 of the series premiered on June 22, 2023, on HBO Max and concluded in early August. Although HBO has confirmed the show’s renewal for a fourth season as of July, no official release date has been announced. The ensemble cast features notable figures such as Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon, contributing significantly to the show’s critical acclaim.
Farmiga humorously commented on the blooper reel from Season 3, anticipating that it would showcase her penchant for humor, stating, “If there was an opportunity to view my blooper reel from Season 3, it would contain lots of swearing.” She added that laughter often breaks out on set, even during serious scenes, highlighting the camaraderie among the cast members. “There’s a lot of jokes. Especially with Morgan Spector and Carrie Coon, there’s a lot of witty banter going around,” she explained.
Representation in Historical Context
McDonald also addressed the significance of her character, Dorothy Scott, in representing Black high society, a theme often overlooked in historical dramas. “The fact that [Black high society] existed, and now a wider audience is seeing that, maybe they’ll dig into history on their own,” she noted. McDonald emphasized the importance of showcasing the diverse facets of the Black community, moving beyond the conventional narratives often portrayed in media.
She stated, “This is a chance to see us out of the normal sort of trauma of either the best friend, the magical Negro, or the downtrodden, you know, enslaved person. We are so much more than that.”
The insights from the cast not only highlight their excitement for the forthcoming season but also reflect the show’s commitment to exploring complex social themes within its narrative. As fans eagerly await further developments, *The Gilded Age* continues to generate conversation around its rich storytelling and character dynamics.
