HBO Confirms New Seasons for House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
HBO has solidified its commitment to the world of Westeros by confirming upcoming seasons for two highly anticipated series: House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This announcement was made by HBO’s chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, indicating the network’s confidence in its adaptations of George R.R. Martin’s expansive universe.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to premiere on January 18, 2026, marking a significant milestone as it has already secured a renewal for a second season, which is slated for 2027. The series is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, following the adventures of knight Ser Duncan and his young squire, Egg. This early renewal suggests that HBO anticipates a positive reception from audiences.
Meanwhile, House of the Dragon season 3 is scheduled for release in summer 2026. This season will continue to explore the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, with the narrative divided between Team Black and Team Green. The conclusion of season 2 set the stage for escalating tensions, with the Battle of the Gullet expected to kick off the new season. Season 4 is planned for 2028, which is anticipated to be the final season based on the source material, Martin’s Fire and Blood.
As part of the announcement, HBO unveiled new images from both series, showcasing pivotal moments. One image features Rhaenyra, adorned with her crown, while another depicts Daemon in the heat of battle, covered in blood. Additionally, a glimpse of Dunk and Egg celebrating together was also shared.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming seasons. “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe,” she stated. Orsi emphasized the rich storytelling encapsulated in Martin’s creations, noting that audiences will be captivated by the underdog tale of Dunk and Egg.
With both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set to unfold over the next few years, fans can look forward to an exciting continuation of the beloved franchise. As anticipation builds, viewers are encouraged to prepare their watchlists with the latest offerings in television.
