Kathy Griffin Receives Advocate of the Year Award at Out100 Party
Kathy Griffin was honored as the LGBTQ+ community’s Advocate of the Year during the annual Out100 party held on December 1, 2023, at Sia at nya Studios West in Los Angeles. The award was presented by singer Sia, who praised Griffin for her resilience and friendship, stating, “She’s my friend, she’s an excellent person and she saved my life.” Sia further celebrated Griffin with a performance of her empowering anthem, “Unstoppable.”
In her acceptance speech, Griffin expressed deep gratitude toward the queer community for their unwavering support, especially following her public controversies and subsequent “cancellation” after a clash with former President Donald Trump. She reflected on her journey and the importance of community, stating, “I’m so honored to be Advocate of the Year because we are a community. This is a tough time, so I have to tell you please become as politically engaged as you can. Please. It’s so important because I worry about you guys and I worry about an America where it may not even be safe to walk down the street as a gay person.”
Niecy Nash-Betts, who was unable to attend the event due to filming commitments in Atlanta, accepted the Icon Award via a video message. Nash-Betts, known for her roles in various television series, conveyed her appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community and its significance in her life and career.
The Out100 party also recognized Miles Heizer, the star of “Boots,” among its honorees. The event showcased a vibrant atmosphere, celebrating not only individual achievements but also the collective strength of the LGBTQ+ community.
Attendees enjoyed an evening filled with camaraderie and inspiration, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the community while reinforcing the importance of solidarity and activism. The Out100 party remains a significant platform for recognizing those who advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in society.
As the night drew to a close, the messages of empowerment resonated strongly, reminding everyone present of the continuing fight for equality and acceptance.
