Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Coparenting Challenges with Kanye West
Kim Kardashian shared insights into her coparenting journey with rapper Kanye West during a recent episode of the podcast *Call Her Daddy*. As of 2025, the couple, who share four children—daughters North (12) and Chicago (7), and sons Saint (9) and Psalm (6)—are navigating the complexities of their relationship post-divorce. Kardashian emphasized the importance of fostering a healthy relationship between her children and their father, despite the difficulties they face.
Kardashian candidly described coparenting as a challenging endeavor. She stated, “I welcome a great healthy relationship with my kids and their dad,” adding that she actively encourages their bond. Yet, she also noted the necessity of protecting her children when needed, mentioning that it can be a continuous effort that “goes in waves and phases.”
Reflecting on her upbringing, Kardashian explained that her approach is influenced by the close relationship she had with her own father. She admires how her sister Khloé Kardashian coparents with Tristan Thompson, stating, “I have the best memories and the best relationship with my dad.” She further highlighted the importance of stability in her children’s lives, acknowledging that their father’s frequent travels complicate the situation.
Kardashian revealed that it had been “a couple of months” since their children last saw West, primarily due to his lifestyle, which includes living in multiple countries. “They always knew that he had a big life traveling before and was always on tour,” she explained. Her focus remains on maintaining a routine and ensuring her children are “healthy and happy.”
Contrary to public perception, Kardashian denied ever restricting West’s access to their children. “I’ve never once done that,” she stated, expressing frustration over narratives suggesting otherwise. She emphasized that while there are moments when West may not seek out the children, she has always been open to facilitating their relationship.
Kardashian also reflected on the breakdown of her marriage to West, which began in 2012. When asked about a potential “final straw,” she explained that there was no singular moment but rather a culmination of issues, including negative public comments about her family and personal matters aired online. “Just not feeling safe, you know, not even physically, just, like, maybe emotionally or even, you know, financially,” she elaborated.
Describing her emotional struggles, Kardashian recalled times when West’s behavior led to significant changes in their household. “I would come home, and we had like five Lamborghinis, and I’d come home and they’d all be gone if he was in an episode,” she said, indicating the unpredictable nature of their relationship. Despite her commitment to making the marriage work, she felt that West was unwilling to adopt changes that could have been beneficial.
She acknowledged the unique challenges that come with coparenting, particularly when children are involved. “It’s definitely harder to leave than it is to stay,” she noted, stressing the impact on everyone’s lives. Kardashian ultimately prioritized her mental health, stating, “Once my mental health starts to get affected, then I can’t parent the way that I need to.”
Her openness about these challenges has garnered a positive response from the public. Many have praised Kardashian for her maturity and grace in handling the situation. Comments from fans included admiration for her handling of the co-parenting dynamic and recognition of her efforts to remain available for her children.
Kardashian’s candid remarks provide a glimpse into the complexities of navigating family life after a high-profile divorce. As she continues to advocate for healthy relationships, both with West and within her family, her commitment to her children remains paramount.
